Today we are bringing you our first review of the Mega Construx Spring 2021 Halo sets – the UNSC Marine Platoon Pack. This set is one which has been hotly anticipated by army builders and Halo fans alike – boasting five Halo Infinite marines which are re-scaled to match the height of marines released prior to the first Infinite wave, and also a UNSC Spartan Mark 7.
Whilst the Mark 7 isn’t the main draw of this set, it is a nice figure – with a ton of paint applications given to really make it stand on its own when compared to other Spartans we have received. The colour choice here does make the figure look clean, however – so perhaps a little weathering would have benefitted this character’s appearance.
The main stars here, however, are the Marines – with each one assigned with a different role on the back of the cardboard packaging. Up first we have the basic ‘UNSC Marine’ – who comes with a light tan leg pouch, and a Black MA40 Assault Rifle. This figure also includes larger shoulder plates than the others in the set. Next we have the UNSC Marine Sniper. He has a grenade on a light tan leg strap, alongside exposed forearms and some facial hair. This figure, as the name gives away, comes packing a sniper rifle and adds some much needed diversity to the platoon. Following on from this we have the UNSC Marine Demolition – a cool figure which reuses the Kat headsculpt, and which is wearing Air Assault shoulders. This character comes equipped with a SPNKR Rocket Launcher.
After this we have the UNSC Marine Technician – a really unique character with a radio pack and a Sidekick Pistol. The best accessory in the whole pack comes with this figure – which is a gorgeous printed UNSC data pad accessory. Last but not least we have the UNSC Marine Survivor – a figure which is shown without armour on the packaging, although he does include a chest-plate and helmet. This figure includes a traditional Battle Rifle, and wears a white shirt with short sleeve to distinguish himself from the other Marines in the pack. The only other accessory in the set is a Reach-style UNSC Turret – and whilst more accessories would have been welcome, I think the sheer value of this set for $20 excuses the lack of additional elements here.
Overall, the UNSC Marine Platoon Pack is the perfect set for fans wanting to army build their UNSC Forces. Combine this with other sets with Marine customisation elements, like the UNSC Marine Gear pack, and you can create a fantastic assortment of Marines – each with a unique loadout and style to their appearance. If you see this set, buy it – I’m confident it will be one of the most popular in 2021.
