The newest series of Halo Heroes have arrived - with Wave 13 of the Mega Construx micro action figures now available in select stores. This wave comes with a strong mixture of both Spartans and Aliens - creating a strong assortment of new characters which I am willing to bet many fans will want to get their hands on.
There is only one named character in this series and it is an iconic one – with a new interpretation of the Master Chief in his Infinite armour. This figure feels like an amalgamation of the Warthog Rally Chief and the Versus Pack Chief – with the lighter green tone of the Warthog Chief, but the metallic dry brushing of the two pack figure.
Whilst the details don’t match those on the box unfortunately, it is still a decent figure with more variation from the other versions of Chief than I initially expected. All of the details are painted well – and although not obvious in the promotional pictures, the two-tone dry brushed Battle Rifle is well executed when the figure is in-hand. I don’t think this figure will be an essential purchase for fans who already have many of Chief – but it is a nice inclusion for those who have yet to acquire him.
Next up we have a Blue and Silver version of the Mark 7 – complete with the Bulldog CQB Shotgun. The MK 7 is a mould which has seen a fairly wide use in a short amount of time and so doesn’t have quite the impact that it did upon its original release, but I do appreciate a lot of the additional paint apps on it – including a nice detail on the shoulder plate. The helmet is also well detailed on this figure too, and the inclusion of the Bulldog is nice as it has some slightly different paint applications to previous versions of this weapon. Overall it is a nice figure – but not my favourite of the wave.
A surprise hit in the wave, however, is the Spartan Trailblazer – who comes in white with some gorgeous rust-coloured highlights. I love this figure. The small detailing on the chest plate and the helmet is executed really well and adds a lot of depth to this character’s armour. The black dry brushing on the white armour helps to make it feel worn and utilised, and the rust highlight on the shoulder plate adds a nice splash of colour too. Combine that with a DMR which has a removable scope and a nice small painted detail and you have a great example of a generic Spartan given the Heroes treatment we have all come to know and love.
Next up we have one of the most beautiful figures to join a Heroes line to date – the Elite Warlord. This figure packs in some new sculpted elements, and combines them with an extreme level of detail – with extra paint on the shoulders, chest plate and also on the feet – creating a figure which feels next-level compared to other Banished figures in our collections. Of extra note is the head here too – which features a two-tone colour to represent the under suit the Elite is wearing. This figure really is next level in terms of how many small paint apps it features. Throw in the highly-detailed Energy Sword with two colours on the hilt, and you have a fantastic figure which has already proven to be a massive hit with Halo fans.
Lastly, but certainly not least we have a figure which people have been asking for for a long time – a super-articulated Brute Chieftain. This figure comes in a Banished colour scheme and is incredibly detailed – with additional paint applications on every single piece of armour. Just like with the Elite Warlord, these additional paint apps really help to make this figure feel even higher-quality than other figures, featuring again, next-level paint apps. I am absolutely in love with both this figure and the Elite Warlord and love how they raise these figures up and set a new bar. Of note here is also the new Brute hand mould, which is an interesting piece – and also the inclusion of a gorgeous painted Gravity Hammer, with some of the most details I think we have ever seen on one of these weapons. Overall, this is a fantastic new addition to Banished Forces.
So to conclude – Series 13 brings a fantastic assortment of characters to the line, with the stand-outs being the new Banished forces, although the Spartans aren’t bad here either. I think this is a really strong assortment of figures which take the detail and depth that Mega Construx are capable of to a new level – so I really cannot wait to see what’s next.
