Despite extending gestures of peace, humanity's goodwill was met with a hail of gunfire and death. Isolated on Harvest with minimal military presence, the planet fell swiftly, leaving only a few survivors to escape the carnage.
Upon losing contact with the colony, the UNSC and Colonial Military Administration dispatched four ships for investigation, all of which were promptly eliminated. The sole communication received and transmitted back to the UNSC was a haunting message:
"Your destruction is the will of the gods, and we are their instrument."
The Period of Struggle
Thus began nearly three decades of relentless warfare. The Covenant swiftly decimated numerous outer colonies before the UNSC could mount a substantial defense.
