Tired of enduring ceaseless mistreatment and oppression from the Sangheili and the San'Shyuum, the Banished severed their ties with the Covenant, seeking a path of their own in the tumultuous aftermath of the conflict. Led by the indomitable Atriox, a remarkable leader known for his tactical brilliance and unwavering determination, the Banished have established themselves as a potent force to be reckoned with in the post-war era.
Unlike their former Covenant brethren, the members of the Banished exhibit a notable departure from religious zealotry, focusing instead on practicality and self-preservation. Many among their ranks, including Atriox himself, were once deeply devout, devoutly adhering to the Covenant's beliefs and dogma. However, their experiences have shattered the illusions surrounding the Covenant's true nature and exposed the machinations of the San'Shyuum Prophets. The revelation of the true history of the Forerunners and the Halo Array further contributed to their disillusionment.
Despite their disillusionment, loyalty to their charismatic leader, Atriox, remains a central tenet within the Banished. Their unwavering allegiance to him is a testament to the respect, admiration, and fear he commands. Atriox's vision extends beyond mere survival or revenge against their former oppressors. He harbors ambitions of carving out his own dominion within the vast expanse of the galaxy, seeking power, resources, and influence.

History
The Banished, under the leadership of the formidable Jiralhanae Atriox, emerged as a splinter faction during the later stages of the Human-Covenant War in 2549. Their formation was largely prompted by the Covenant's callous exploitation of Atriox's clan, deploying them on suicidal missions in various conflicts, including the harrowing Battle of Algolis from 2548 to 2549. Driven by his disdain for the religious fervor that demanded the sacrifice of his clan, Atriox defied his Sangheili superiors and forged the Banished, a force motivated by their rejection of blind devotion.
Throughout the remaining years of the war, the Banished roamed the galaxy as opportunistic pirates, steadily expanding their ranks and arsenal. With the collapse of the Covenant in 2552, the Banished found themselves poised for rapid growth, scavenging abandoned warships, weapons, and recruiting warriors without a cause. Over the next decade, their influence continued to flourish, culminating in their arrival at the Ark in late 2558.
While at the Ark, the Banished launched a raid on the Henry Lamb Research Outpost, a facility established by the UNSC to study the ancient Forerunner technology. This audacious attack resulted in the elimination of all UNSC personnel present. Several months later, the UNSC Spirit of Fire arrived at the Ark and was immediately thrust into conflict with the Banished. Engaged in intense combat for several months, both factions found themselves stranded at the Ark, lacking the means to return to the Milky Way galaxy.
As of June 2559, both the Banished and their resolute leader, Atriox, continue their battle against the UNSC forces on the Ark, their determination unwavering in the face of adversity.
Members
Similar to the Swords of Sanghelios, the Banished are bound not by a centralized religion like the Covenant or a common genetic heritage and culture like humanity. Instead, their unity stems from their unwavering allegiance to their leader, Atriox. While primarily composed of Jiralhanae, the Banished have also welcomed members from various former Covenant species into their ranks, to varying extents. Remarkably, this includes even some Sangheili, who have set aside their historical enmity to stand alongside the Banished.
