The Battle of Epsilon Clarion was a conflict on the Ark between the Keepers of the One Freedom, the Covenant, and the Banished. The UNSC and ONI also had a presence during this conflict in the form of undercover Ferret Team Gamma, led by Veta Lopis. The conflict stemmed from the desire for Castor, Dokab of the Keepers of the One Freedom, and Dhas Bhasvod, Prelate of the Covenant forces, to initiate the great journey by activating the Halo Array from Epsilon Clarion. Castor was also assisted by Forerunner AI Intrepid Eye, who determined the only way to rid the galaxy of Cortana's rule and prepare humanity to assume the mantle was to fire the array.

While previously allied with the Banished, Castor and the Keepers hijacked Atriox's Lich on Reach and travelled to the Ark with the explicit purpose of activating the Halo Array. The Banished, who were not believers in the great journey, fought to stop Castor and Bhasvod from accessing Installation 00's control room. Though not allied, the Banished were assisted by ONI Ferret Team Gamma, who were undercover with the Keepers and worked to sabotogue Castor's efforts.

The battle ultimately ended up as a Banished victory, though both Dhas Bhasvod and Castor escaped with their lives. Intrepid Eye, meanwhile, was apparently destroyed in the battle. Though Veta and the ferrets managed to escape the Keepers and reconnect with the UNSC forces on the Spirit of Fire, Mark-G313 was killed at the hands of Dhas Bhasvod.
