SUMMARY
Following the events of Halo: First Strike, John-117 returns to Earth to receive commendation for his actions on Installation 04. During the ceremony, Covenant ships are detected entering the Sol system, starting the Battle for Earth. Meanwhile Fleet Commander Thel 'Vadamee is disciplined for his failure to stop the humans from destroying Installation 04, and becomes the next Arbiter.
During the initial events of the Battle for Earth, the Prophet of Regret determines the location of Installation 05 and leaves the battle for the Halo, with the UNSC In Amber Clad following. John-117 and the In Amber Clad crew attempt to stop the Covenant from activating the installation, but the ring has become infested with the Flood.
The Prophet of Truth begins the Great Schism, turning the Jiralhanae against the Sangheili, and the Arbiter and Master Chief team up to stop the Covenant. In the process the Prophets of Regret and Mercy are killed, and High Charity is infested with Flood. Cortana remains on High Charity to ensure the Flood doesn't get escape, while Master Chief follows Truth back to Earth.

The UNSC In Amber Clad, commanded by Miranda Keyes, battle the Covenant on Earth and Delta Halo, though the In Amber Clad eventually falls to the Flood. Fleeing the fall of High Charity, the Prophet of Truth heads back to Earth in the Forerunner Dreadnought, Anodyne Spirit.
